MOD Monochrome Display | User Guide

In this article: You’ll learn how to access the advanced settings menu and verify the correct factory settings for MOD BIKE models equipped with a MOD Monochrome Display.

⚠️ Note: The settings shown in this guide are programmed for the bike’s motor, battery, wheel size, pedal assist system, and speed sensor. Incorrect settings may cause inaccurate speed or battery readings, unexpected pedal assist behavior, error codes, reduced performance, or damage to electrical components.

Before You Start

Tools you will need

• No tools are required.

Preparation

• Park the bike securely on its kickstand.

• Make sure the battery is sufficiently charged.

• Power on the bike’s display.

• Confirm that your display matches the monochrome display shown in this article.

• Do not change a setting unless you have verified the correct value for your specific bike model.

• Work in a bright area where you can easily access your handlebars and display cable.

How to Access the Settings Menu

• Power on the display by pressing and holding the “i” button for approximately two seconds.

• Press and hold the “+” and “–” buttons simultaneously for approximately two seconds.

• Use the “+” and “–” buttons to move through the available settings and change values of a setting.

• Press the “i” button to select, enter, or save a setting.

• To exit the settings menu, press and hold the “i” button for approximately two seconds.

⚠️ Note: When the home screen is displayed, holding the “i” button will power off the display.

Settings

Not every setting shown in this article is available on every display. Available options vary depending on your display's software version.

The following settings should be available on nearly all monochrome displays:

• Clear Trip

• Wheel Diameter

• Speed Limit

• Set Voltage

• Set Power

• Backlight

• Password (PIN)

Other settings, such as Assistant Number, Set Current, and Speed Sensor, may not appear depending on your bike model and display firmware.

Clear Trip

The Clear Trip option resets the current trip distance without affecting the bike's lifetime odometer.

Instructions

1. Navigate to Clear Trip.

2. Select YES to reset the trip meter, or NO to keep the current trip distance.

3. Press "i" button to save.

Set Unit

Choose whether the display shows speed and distance in Miles (MPH) or Kilometers (KM/H).

Instructions

1. Navigate to Set Unit.

2. Select Metric (km) or Imperial (mile).

3. Press "i" button to save.

Recommended Setting: Match your local preference.

Wheel Diameter

This setting tells the controller the size of your wheel and affects speed and distance calculations.

Instructions

1. Navigate to Wheel Diameter.

2. Select the factory wheel size for your bike.

3. Press "i" button to save.

Important: Use only the factory wheel size for your model. Changing this value will affect the accuracy of the speedometer and odometer.

For MOD City/CarGo set to 20 inch:

For MOD Easy/Sahara/Groove set to 24 inch:

For MOD Berlin/Black set to 700C:

Speed Limit

Controls the maximum assisted speed allowed by the controller.

Instructions

1. Navigate to Speed Limit.

2. Select your desired speed limit. Maximum 28mph.

3. Press "i" button to save.

Important: Do not increase this value beyond your bike's factory specifications - 28mph. The controller will only provide pedal assist up to the programmed speed limit.

Set Voltage

This menu calibrates the battery voltage display.

Instructions

• Navigate to Set Voltage.

• Verify the following factory values:

  • 40.0V

  • 42.0V

  • 44.0V

  • 46.0V

  • 48.0V

3. Press "i" button to save.

Important: Changing these values to anything other than default will cause inaccurate battery level readings.

Set Power

Adjusts the display brightness (backlight intensity).

Instructions

1. Navigate to Set Power (Backlight).

2. Select your preferred brightness level.

3. Press "i" button to save.

Higher brightness improves visibility in sunlight but may slightly increase battery consumption.

Set Current

This setting adjusts the batteries maximum current output.

Note: This menu is only available on some software versions.

1. Navigate to Set Current.

2. Select the desired current value.

3. Press "i" button to save.

Factory Setting: 17A

For riders looking to maximize range, MOD BIKES recommends 12A–14A.

Lower current reduces acceleration but can increase riding range.

Assistant Number

Determines the number of pedal assist levels available.

Note: This option may not appear on all displays.

Instructions

1. Navigate to Assistant Number.

2. Set to 12.

3. Press "i" button to save.

Use the factory setting of 12 unless instructed otherwise by MOD Support.

Speed Sensor

Configures the wheel speed sensor used by the controller.

Note: This option is only available on certain software versions.

Instructions

• Navigate to Speed Sensor.

• Verify the factory value.

• Press "i" button to save.

Do not modify this setting unless instructed by MOD Support.

Set Backlight

Allows you to change the brightness of your display

Instructions

1. Navigate to Set Backlight.

2. Choose your display value. 

3. Press "i" button to save.

Factory Default Value: 50%

Set PIN (Password)

Allows you to change or disable the display security PIN.

Instructions

1. Navigate to Set PIN.

2. Enter the current PIN.

3. Enter a new PIN or leave the default.

4. Press "i" button to save.

Factory Default PIN: 1212

Record your new PIN in a safe place. If forgotten, MOD Support may be required to help regain access.

Troubleshooting

• The display shows the wrong speed → Verify the unit and wheel-diameter settings. Do not change the wheel diameter without confirming the correct model-specific value.

• The battery indicator is inaccurate → Verify that the voltage thresholds are set to 40.0, 42.0, 44.0, 46.0, and 48.0.

• Pedal assist feels too strong or too weak → Verify the Set Power, Set Current, and Assistant Number values against the images for your bike model.

• The bike accelerates too quickly → Confirm that Set Current does not exceed 17A. A setting between 12A and 14A may provide a softer response and improved range.

• The display asks for a PIN → Enter the default PIN, 1212, unless it was previously changed.

• The PIN does not work → Confirm each number before moving to the next field. Contact MOD BIKES Support if the PIN was changed and cannot be recovered.

• The display shows an error after settings were changed → Stop riding and restore all settings using the model-specific images in this article.

• The settings menu will not open → Turn the display on, then press and hold the “+” and “–” buttons simultaneously for approximately two seconds.

• A menu option looks different from this guide → Confirm that the bike has the monochrome display. Color displays use a different settings system.

FAQs

• Are the settings identical on the MOD Berlin, MOD Easy, and MOD City+?
  Many settings are identical, including the battery-voltage thresholds, default PIN, and maximum current. However, wheel diameter, pedal assist programming, assistant number, speed sensor, and other values may differ by model. Always use the specific values for your MOD bike.

• Can I change the wheel diameter to correct the speed?
  Only enter the correct factory value for the bike. Changing it to an unapproved value may create inaccurate readings and electrical-system problems.

• Can I lower the maximum speed?
  Yes. The speed limit may be reduced for rider comfort or to comply with local regulations.

• Can I increase the current above 17A?
  No. Do not exceed 17A. A higher value can increase battery drain and may damage electrical components.

• What is the default display PIN?
  The default PIN is 1212.

• Can I change the pedal assist percentages?
  The menu permits adjustment, but the factory percentages are programmed for the bike’s intended performance. Do not change them unless directed by MOD BIKES Support.

• Why does the display show a different battery level than the battery itself?
  The display and battery use different metering systems, so their readings may vary slightly. Refer to the indicator on the battery for the most direct battery-level reading.

• What should I do if I’ve changed a setting accidentally?
  Use the model-specific images in this article to restore the correct value. Do not ride the bike if the display shows an error or the motor behaves unexpectedly.

Some display settings are manufacturer-programmed and should not be changed. Incorrect wheel diameter, voltage, power, current, pedal assist, or speed-sensor settings may cause inaccurate readings, unexpected motor behavior, error codes, component damage, loss of control, injury, or death.

Do not exceed the approved current setting of 17A. Do not use settings from a different bike model, display type, or electrical configuration.

After restoring the settings, test the bike in a safe, open area at a low pedal assist level before returning to normal riding. If the bike displays an error code or behaves unexpectedly, stop riding and contact MOD BIKES Support.
