Troubleshooting | My Bike Won't Turn On
In this article: You’ll learn how to troubleshoot a MOD BIKE that will not turn on by checking the display and power buttons, inspecting cables and electrical connections, verifying the battery and charger, and confirming the controller is properly connected.
This Article Applies to the Following Bikes
Difficulty
★☆☆ Easy
Estimated Time
5 - 10 Min
Before You Start
Tools you will need
- Multitool with Allen Wrenches (included in your bike tool kit)
Preparation
- Power off the bike.
- Ensure the bike is stable on its kickstand.
Check the Battery and Charger
If the battery is not charged, not switched on, or not seated properly, the bike will not receive power.
Steps
Remove and reinsert the battery firmly and confirm it’s fully seated
Turn the key clockwise to lock the battery in place
Make sure the battery switch is set to “I” (ON)
- Plug the charger into the battery and check the indicator light:
Charger light turns red: The battery is charging. Leave it connected until the light turns green.
Charger light changes from red to green: The battery is fully charged.
Charger light stays green immediately: This can mean the battery is already full or that there is an issue with the charger or charging port. If your battery has a charge indicator, press it to confirm the battery level.
Charger stays green and the battery does not show a full charge (or shows no response): There may be an issue with the charger or the battery charging port. Submit a support ticket for further troubleshooting
No charger light at all: The charger may not be working or may not be connected properly. Check the outlet, connections, and charger. Submit a support ticket if the issue continues.

Check the Display and Power Buttons
The display is responsible for sending the power-on signal to the controller. If the display does not power on, the bike will remain completely inactive even if the battery is charged.
Steps
Press and hold the i power button on the display for 2–3 seconds
Make sure the display is firmly mounted and not loose

What the results mean
Display turns on normally: Proceed to the next section.
No lights, no screen, no response: Continue troubleshooting below.
Check All Cables and Connections
Your bike relies on multiple electrical connections between the display, battery, and controller. If even one connector is loose, bent, or dirty, the bike may not turn on.
Steps
Inspect all visible cables near the handlebars, and frame..
Make sure every connector is fully plugged in, straight (no bent pins), and free of dirt or moisture.

What the results mean
Bike powers on after reseating a connector: The issue was a loose connection.
Bike still does not turn on: Proceed to the next section.
Check the Controller
The controller manages all power distribution on the bike. If a controller connection is loose, the bike may not power on at all.
Steps
Locate the controller
Check that all controller connections are fully plugged in and secure.
Note: On the MOD Easy, the controller is housed inside the battery tank. On all other MOD BIKES models, the controller is housed near the crank area. To access the controller on those models, you’ll need the 4mm Allen wrench included in your multi-tool.

What the results mean
Bike turns on after reseating controller connections: The issue was a loose controller plug.
Bike still does not turn on: Continue to the final step.
If the Bike Still Won’t Turn On
If you have completed all steps above and the bike still does not power on, the issue may involve the controller, display, battery, or internal wiring.
Please submit a support ticket so our MOD BIKES team can guide you through advanced diagnostics.
Troubleshooting
- Bike won’t turn on at all → Battery not charged, switched off, or not seated properly
- Display stays black → Loose display or controller connection
- Bike worked before but not now → Cable may have shifted during transport or riding
FAQs
- Why won’t my bike turn on even though the battery is charged?
The most common cause is the battery not being fully seated or locked in place. Remove it, reinsert it firmly, lock it, and make sure the battery switch is set to “I” (ON). - Do I need to press and hold the power button?
Yes. Press and hold the display power button i for 2–3 seconds. A quick tap will not turn the bike on. - My charger light is green. Does that mean the battery is full?
Yes. A green charger light indicates the battery is fully charged. Red means it is actively charging. - Can a loose cable really stop the bike from turning on?
Yes. Even one partially connected cable (especially at the display or controller) can prevent the bike from powering on.
Warning
⚠️ Important Safety & Liability Notice Do not ride the bike if it powers on intermittently or shuts off unexpectedly. Riding with electrical issues may result in loss of control or injury. If you are unsure or uncomfortable performing these checks, stop and contact MOD BIKES support.
