Before You Start

Tools you will need

  • 3 mm Allen wrench
  • 3 zip ties
  • Bolt Tray (or any small container for screws)
  • Cable snipers or scissors
  • Isopropyl alcohol

Preparation

  • Power off the bike.
  • Work in a bright area where you can easily access your handlebars and display cable.

Steps | All Bikes

Step 1: Access the Throttle Cable

  1. Unzip and remove the sleeve that protects the front cables.

  2. Cut the zip ties that hold the cables together.

  3. Untwist the spiral plastic organizer to expose the cables running down the handlebar.

Step 2: Disconnect the Old Throttle

  1. Locate the yellow Julet connector coming from the throttle cable and pull it apart carefully — do not twist the connector.

  2. Remove the grip end cap by twisting and pulling it straight out.

  3. Firmly pull and twist the grip to slide it completely off the handlebar.

  4. Use a 3 mm Allen wrench to loosen the single bolt securing the throttle in place.

Step 3: Pull Out the Throttle

  • Slide the throttle off the handlebar and set it aside.

Step 4: Install the New Throttle

  1. Align the throttle and clamp ring together before mounting.

  2. Slide the throttle onto the handlebar until it’s snug against the brake lever mount.

  3. Apply a small amount of isopropyl alcohol to the handlebar end to make reinstalling the grip easier.

  4. Push and twist the grip back onto the handlebar until it’s fully seated and aligned.

Step 5: Connect the New Throttle

  1. Align the arrows of the yellow Julet connector and push both ends together until you feel a soft “click.”

  2. Twist the spiral plastic organizer to cover the cables running down the handlebar.

  3. Zip-tie the cables together and cut the excess ends.

  4. Zip the cable sleeve back into place.

Step 6: Test the New Throttle

  • Power on the bike by holding the “i” button, and go for a quick ride to confirm that the throttle works.

Troubleshooting

  • Throttle doesn’t respond  Check that the yellow Julet connector is fully seated and the arrows are aligned. Make sure the connector is dry, clean, and pushed together firmly until it clicks.

  • Throttle feels loose  Ensure the clamp bolt is tightened securely with a 3 mm Allen wrench.

  • Bike doesn’t accelerate even though the throttle turns  Confirm that the display is powered on, the assist level is above zero, and the connector pins are straight and undamaged.

  • Throttle stays engaged or sticks  Make sure no zip ties or cables are pulling on the throttle wire. Reinstall the throttle, ensuring it rotates freely without resistance.

FAQs

  • Do I need to recalibrate the throttle after replacing it?
No. The new MOD throttle is plug-and-play and works immediately once connected.

  • How can I test if my throttle is working properly?
Power on the bike, select an assist level, and slowly twist the throttle while standing next to the bike. The rear wheel should begin spinning smoothly.

  • Can I ride the bike if the throttle isn’t connected?
Yes. Your pedal assist will still function normally even if the throttle is disconnected.

Warning

⚠️ Important Safety & Liability Notice

Always ensure your bike is powered off and the battery is removed before connecting or disconnecting any display cables.
